Preserving
Goodness
To lock in the freshness, moisture and texture, giving all
fruits and vegetables the cold treatment is an absolute necessity
at Hu Lee Impex.
With exacting standards of quality control
to ensure no break in the cold chain, suffice it to say that
Hu Lee Impex is well on its way to receiving the HACCP (Hazard
Analysis and Critical Control Point) accreditation. From the
time raw fresh produce is delivered to Hu Lee Impex’s
factory at Chin Bee Avenue, the air-tight containers are allowed
to dock into the unloading bays which are directly linked
to the enclosed cold room with controlled atmosphere, perfect
for preserving fruits and vegetables in the crunchiest and
crispiest condition. Here, groceries to be sold as frozen
produce are immediately stored away at -18°C whilst fresh
produce are sent for processing and packaging in the cold
room. The finished products are then delivered to the clients,
mainly the mass retail markets, via refrigerated trucks to
ensure that the temperature stays constantly chilled and the
wholesome goodness remains holistically intact. |

State-of-the-Art
Facilities
This would not be possible at
Hu Lee Impex’s old premises at Pasir Panjang Wholesale
Centre where facilities are limited and the raw produce were
exposed to warm temperatures and the surrounding humidity
in a tropical climate, which often resulted in rapid quality
deterioration of these perishables.
Kudos to Hu Lee Impex’s strategic
shift to its 80,000 square feet state-of-the-art factory with
international cold room standards on 7 October 2006, an event
which was officiated by Singapore’s Minister of State
for Trade and Industry Mr S Iswaran, these external obstacles
have become history and the future looks bright for Hu Lee
Impex, especially with the importation of cutting-edge European
machineries that have ushered in a new dawn for a traditional
industry. |

Seamless
Production Lines
Problems ranging from stock wastage,
dumping, unnecessary labour expenses to consumer hazards caused
by unhygienic handling are now alleviated as the semi automated
production lines facilitate the safe, effective and seamless
execution of every step in the processing and packaging of fresh
produce, from trimming, feeding, packaging, shrinking, weighing
to labelling. Of course, softer and more fragile vegetables
such as spinach will still be packed manually and given the
human touch to ensure that the premium quality is preserved.
With Hu Lee Impex’s pleasing and easy-to-manage packaging,
retail clients can take a great logistical load off their minds
and focus their efforts on more productive pursuits like product
displays and supermarket outreach strategies. |

Operational
Efficiency
The ensuing efficiency has given
Hu Lee Impex the fine reputation of being a one-stop OEM service
station that is well-equipped to handle the processing and packaging
of fresh produce for other companies that deem it not economical
to do so. With its rich repertoire of high-tech capabilities
that includes Microsoft’s Navision inventory and accounting
management software, Hu Lee Impex can even go to the extent
of customising analysis reports detailing time savings and cost
savings for these suppliers of raw fruits and vegetables. |

Environmental
Accreditation
Underscoring this new era in spearheading
state-of-the-art features and technologies is Hu Lee Impex’s
down-to-earth social responsibility. Guided by its unyielding
commitment to food safety, Hu Lee Impex is actively propagating
environmentally-responsible principles to its partnering farms
to ensure that they meet international HACCP standards. In view
of the encouraging progress, being awarded with Good Agricultural
Practice (GAP) certifications by the Agri-Food and Veterinary
Authority of Singapore is in the pipeline and would definitely
be a booster, but the real accolade lies in the safety assurance
delivered to the end consumers whenever they have a taste of
the fresh greens and juicy fruits that are meticulously processed
and packaged for their gastronomic enjoyment at Hu Lee Impex. |
